Interesting facts learned in Psychology class today:

  • 75% of daily conversation is negative
  • children laugh an average of 400 times a day, adults average about 15
  • by the age 3 the average child has been told no 350,000 times!
  • optimists live longer than pessimists (yes that is scientifically proven)
  • laughter actually strengthens the immune system

"If you think you can, or if you think you can't...you're probably right."                  - Benjamin Franklin

Let me start by saying...(sigh)...

Before my Abnormal Psychology class today I thought for sure that I had done it. I've thought it before, and I've been told that I'd done it before, but I had never really begun to accept it until I lived through the last couple of weeks. What had I thought I had done you ask? Well how should you have any idea considering I've all but fallen off the face of the planet, right? (my deepest and sincerest regrets Anne and Megan) What I thought I might have done is...taken on too much!

I am very exicited about this semester. It is officially the start of my sophmore year, and although I have been to school before, I've never started a sophmore year. Nate, I know you will share my enthusiasm/relief/overzealousness. I think because of being in school pretty much non-stop for the past 12 months (I took summer classes last year). I have gotten a taste for how quickly time can go when you are busy with school, and seeing I have a better idea of what I want to do, I am anxious to be done with all of the b******t classes and get on with the interesting stuff. On that note, I'm sure it will not surprise you to know that I added an additional class to my schedule the night before the first day of class, and I have also taken on an additional project in one of my Psychology classes in order to develop those oh so important connections with people that can give excellent reference letters, and those in charge at the University of Arizona.

I promise that I will try and be better at keeping update. That's really all I can do.

So it's been like 3 weeks and there's so much to say that I don't even know where to start. I hate that. A quick summary for now:

Christmas was...good. Birthday was good. I didn't really feel that old until I read Anne's entry informing us how old she would be this year. Work is okay. School starts in a little over 2 weeks. Aargh. I feel like it just ended. Saw some pretty good movies this past month. Narnia, The Producers, King Kong (Megan, I couldn't agree more. In fact, I don't even remember an ice skating scene, so apparently I just tuned out for a while), Chicken Little, Aeon Flux, Yours Mine and Ours, and some others that I can't think of. I read this book over Christmas, and I definitely recommend it. It changes your perspective on addiction. Now I'm on #4 in the Harry Potter series.

This post is for Megan.

I have strong feelings about this, and I didn't want to go off on a tangent and offend any of your other friends that I don't know. Anyone else that is reading this, feel free to remark.

Why do people waste the energy and conversation being friendly just "to be nice"? I have never really understood the purpose of this, and as I get older and older I develop a more established stance. Now, I understand the importance of being professional with colleagues, clients, in-laws, etc. but I do not understand the purpose of maintaining a "friendship" with someone you don't like. I'm not talking about stupid junior high bull**** drama, I'm talking about the problem of not having things in common, or just a chemical thing that makes the person "rub you the wrong way." This is especially true if the so-called "friend" says something to offend you or they are continually talking about topics that annoy you or piss you off. Of course, everybody is going to say something wrong at some point in any friendship, but if it's happening every time you see them, why do you continue to see them? I think you would find that most people don't realize when they are being annoying, or offensive, or just...well...stupid, and that by drawing attention to it one of two things will happen. They will either apologize and set out to change their ways (at least in your company), or they will get defensive, mad, etc. and not want to see you or speak to you again. Either outcome...problem solved.

And of course, let's not forget the whole screaning calls, not replying to e-mails, not returning calls, looking the other way when you see them, solution. I know what you are going to say, "but what happens when I run into them?" You say that you have to be somewhere, or you have to do something and that you can't talk right now, but maybe later, and you keep walking. Sooner or later they'll get the hint. Trust me...it works.

What I mean by "every flippin' one" is the track I'm listening to.
